Clarinet in Bb AB : 8 [ends: 2017] Christo (Hristo) Yotzov was born in 1960 in Sofia to a family of musicians. He graduated from the National Music School and later from the State Academy of Music where he studied percussion with Professor Dobri Paliev. His jazz playing career started in 1982 with Simon Sterevs Jazz Focus Quartet after which he went on to form the Acoustic Version group which won the two most prestigious European jazz competitions - Hoeilaart (Belgium) in 1985 and Leverkusen (Germany) in 1986 with the title of European Jazz Artists of the Year. Since 1989 he has been the main teacher of drums and vibraphone in the jazz department of the State Academy of Music and also leads the Masters courses in the New Bulgarian University in Sofia. In 1999 he won Jazz Musician of the Year at the National Music Awards. In 2004 at a composition competition in Plovdiv he won first prize for his Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra.
